Since the <a href=\"https:\/\/ccs-baltic.eu\/2024\/05\/16\/the-european-commission-grants-pci-status-to-co2-value-chain-project-developed-by-ccs-baltic-consortium\/\">CCS Baltic Consortium project achieved PCI status at the end of 2023<\/a>, additional studies and analysis have been performed, and the onshore transport concept has significantly evolved. Additionally, the CO\u2082 market has advanced, with increased transport volumes, growing projected customer demand, and new market insights. As a result, the viability of transportation options has shifted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An onshore CO\u2082 pipeline system has emerged as a practical and cost-efficient solution for transporting large-scale CO\u2082 volumes. For smaller quantities\u2014rail and road transport offer a more flexible and suitable alternative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This development enables efficient, large-scale CO\u2082 transportation for both anchor customers \u2014 Akmen\u0117s Cementas (operating in Lithuania) and SCHWENK Latvija (operating in Latvia) \u2014 and other major emitters in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The consortium is now focusing on pipeline transport as the preferred method for onshore CO\u2082 transportation, with gas transmission system operators \u2014 Amber Grid (Lithuania) and Conexus Baltic Grid (Latvia) \u2014 responsible for the analysis and potential construction and operation of onshore pipelines.
