To create a complete CCS value chain, the CCS Baltic Consortium project was established in 2022, with KN Energies acting as both coordinator and partner.

Once implemented, the project will enable CO₂ to be captured from various industrial companies across the Baltic region, transported to the terminal in Klaipėda, and shipped by sea to long-term geological storage sites located under the seabed of the North Sea.

The CO₂ transshipment terminal infrastructure in Klaipėda will commence its operations with two cement plants operating in Lithuania and Latvia. At the same time, the facility will operate on an open-access basis, allowing third parties to access the infrastructure and enabling additional sectors and companies to connect, thereby promoting the application of CCS technologies.

As part of the FEED, Aker Solutions will build upon findings from previous phase technical evaluations to further refine the technical design specification of the planned infrastructure as well as evaluate potential expansion routes for facility development.

“The successful procurement of a FEED contractor for Klaipėda liquid CO₂ terminal marks an important milestone in CCS Baltic Consortium development and commitment of KN Energies to further increase maturity of this project of EU Common Interest.
